Our Team Got Certified in First Aid by the Red Cross
At Trepa, the safety of our community is a priority. That is why on Sunday, November 9, 2025, our entire team completed the First Aid Course (8 hours) taught by the Institute of Education of the Colombian Red Cross, Cundinamarca and Bogota Section, an intensive 8:00 am to 5:00 pm session where we earned certification in emergency care and accident response.
Why First Aid at a climbing gym?
Bouldering is a safe sport when practiced with the right precautions. However, as with any physical activity, injuries can occur: sprains, falls, bumps, or more complex situations. Having a trained team ready to respond quickly and effectively makes all the difference.
We want everyone who walks into Trepa to know there is a team prepared to handle any emergency.
What did we learn?
The training was led by Leonardo Padilla, a Red Cross instructor, and covered the core first aid topics applied to our sports context:
- Primary patient assessment — how to quickly and safely evaluate an injured person.
- Spinal board immobilization — a key technique for spinal injuries, especially relevant for falls from height.
- Bandaging and bleeding control — applying compression bandages and techniques to stop bleeding.
- Recovery position — how to position an unconscious but breathing person to keep the airway clear.
- Fracture and sprain management — limb immobilization and initial care for musculoskeletal injuries.
Hands-on practice at our facilities
One of the most valuable parts of the training was that it took place directly at our facilities. This allowed the team to practice the techniques in the same environment where they would need to apply them: on the crash pads under the climbing wall, in the training areas, and at the reception.
13 certified team members
The entire Trepa team participated in the training: coaches, receptionists, administration, and route setters. All 13 team members received their official certificate from the Colombian Red Cross Institute of Education.
At Trepa we climb with safety, responsibility, and community.
